A new barcode ticket scanning system has been adopted by Gatwick Express, the company which provides the rail to air service between Victoria train station and Gatwick airport.
The new barcode system should alleviate the long queues some passengers had to cope with at times of heavy footfall. The system enables customers to print off their own tickets or use an image of the barcode on their mobile device, which can be scanned at the ticket gates.
The company marketing manager David Matherall said:
“The new barcode scanners ensure that customers, who book in advance and select the ‘print at home’ option or send their tickets to their UK mobile, can move more easily from their start point to their final destination. With our excellent online discounts, this means that web booking is both cheaper and more convenient.”
The company have also launched their own mobile website which allows passengers to buy tickets from their smart phone devices, something the company hopes will improve passenger numbers and ease congestion at ticket booths.
The scanners have been installed at both Gatwick airport and London Victoria train station.
